The Korea Post news:

What’s cooking in your country today?

Today’s representative food of the world comes from Germany.

Gr?nkohl mit Pinkel und Kassler from Germany

Gr?nkohl mit Pinkel und Kassler

Curly-Leafed Kale with Smoked Sausage and Salted Smoked Pork

Recipe

Ingredients for 6 servings

? 6 “Pinkels” (smoked German blood sausages, about 600g total)

? 1kg of Washed kale, fresh or frozen

? 2 Onions, diced

? Salt

? Pepper

? 3 Table spoons of lard or butter oil

? 600-800ml Vegetable stock

? 300g Bacon, diced

? 800g potatoes , not peeled (side dish)

? 3 Table spoons of mustard

? 3 Table spoons of oat flakes or potato flour

? Optional: nutmeg, caraway, sugar

If using fresh Kale, start with cooking kale in salt water for 3-5 minutes. Then put the lard or butter oil in a big pot and melt it. Add onions and bacon and fry until golden. Now add kale, vegetable stock, salt, spices and mustard and let it cook on low temperatures with closed lid for 30 minutes (kale should be squishy). Place the sausages on top and continue to cook on low temperature for another 20-30 minutes (sausages only need to heat). Add the smoked pork on top and let it cook for another 20 minutes. If needed, add more water. While waiting, start to boil the potatoes in salt water for about 20 minutes, peel after. Before serving, add oat flakes or potato flour to thicken the kale. If not bought sliced, slice Kassler now.

Enjoy!

Please introduce the mouth-watering food of your country while it is hot.

(Please send the recipe and comments to edt@koreapost.com, korpost@chol.com or yeskoreapost@gmail.com.

At Ansan Culture Plaza on May 1-3, 2015

Ansan City hosts International Street Drama Festival

The Ansan City, some 26 miles southwest of Seoul, hosts the 2015 Ansan International Street Drama Festival (AISDF) at the Ansan Culture Plaza on May 1-3, 2015 in a three-day run on the theme of ‘City in Action!’ which is also a slogan for the event.

A total of 61 works will be presented during the Festival, namely 48 from Korea and 13 from nine foreign countries.

The AISDF poses a substantial contrast with conventional street drama festivals in the fact that it attempts to produce new works created through a harmonious merger between the intrinsic artistic value of the street dramas and regional features of Ansan.

Among the 12 official entries are six Korean works and the remaining six entries from a number of different countries, namely France, Australia, the Netherlands and Portugal.

The Korean works consist of (1) AnNyeong (literally, “Hi!”) created by Creative Group NoNI, (2) Falling As I Lean Against the Wall, (3) Living The Good Life by Ambiguous Dance Company, (4) Pyro Art Work by HWARANG Art Pyrotechnics (5) ‘Donkey Shadow Trial’ by Art-Factory Comma And and (6) Tempest by THEATRE HADDANGSE. Among the six Korean works, the opening work is AnNyeong.

Among the foreign works, the opening entry is one from France named Envolee created by Aerosculpture Group. Others include the Megaphone Project by the Megaphone Project from Australia, The Poet on the Street from the Netherlands and the Remaining People from Portugal.

Ambassadors and Madams are invited to attend the opening ceremony on May 1, 2015. For our possible transmission failures, please call Tel 2298-1740/2, 010-5201-1740 or send an email to edt@koreapost.com or korpost@chol.com.

McDonald's

Before taking a family trip to Europe the American father emphasized that they would be soaking in the local culture and enjoying fine local cuisine.

That meant: No fast food! A few weeks into the trip, they were in Australia when they came upon a McDonald’s. The 8-year-old son immediately ran toward it.

“Remember our rule,” the father yelled out.

“I’m not going to eat… I just want to smell it.”

[News analysis] What’s next amid scandal and PM’s resignation?

President Park says resignation is “unfortunate”, but isn’t taking proper steps to investigate and reform

President Geun-hye issued a statement at 5:30 am on Apr. 21 from Peru, where she is visiting as part of a tour of Central and South America.“I have received a report on the Prime Minister’s [Lee Wan-koo] resignation announcement,” said the message, delivered by Blue House spokesperson Min Kyung-wook. “It is very unfortunate, and I can sense the anguish the Prime Minister is going through.”

[Reporter’s notebook] President Park’s notebook says, “There are no apologies.”

After President Park Geun-hye was briefed in Peru - her current stop on her tour of four countries in Central and South America - about Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo’s offer of resignation, her main reaction seemed to be sympathy for Lee. “It is very unfortunate, and I can sense the anguish the Prime Minister is going through,” she said. Once again, Park made no apology and expressed no regret for the chaos and power vacuum caused by a prime minister she had appointed. .

[Reporter’s notebook] THAAD could mean another bloody battle over land

The debate over a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system appears to have quieted down after heating up the peninsula in recent months. For now at least, the issue looks to have slipped below the surface. But high-ranking US military officials now seem to be making efforts to keep the THAAD debate alive, with US Pacific Command commander Samuel Locklear and USFK commander Curtis Scaparrotti recently saying that discussions were under way on the deployment of a battery .

Another US newspaper calls on Abe to apologize for war crimes

With Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe planning to visit the US at the end of this month, major US newspapers are openly calling for Abe to apologize for the war crimes committed by Japan, including the issue of the comfort women. Following an editorial in the New York Times on Apr. 20 that urged Abe to adjust his attitude, the Washington Post warned in an Apr. 21 article filed from Tokyo that, if Abe makes “only a cursory reference to historical issues - .

Yellow Sewol ribbons have become a symbol of rebellion

In Gwanghwamun Square in central Seoul, where the families of the victims in the Sewol sinking have been staying in tents for close to a year, there is a large yellow ribbon sculpture that is waiting for the nine people who are still missing. The yellow ribbons, which have become a symbol commemorating the victims in the tragic sinking of the ferry, started with a proposal by ALT, a coalition of university clubs, on Apr. 19, 2014, a few days after the ferry went down. .

Amid growing corruption scandal, Prime Minister Lee offers to resign

On Apr. 20, Prime Minister Lee Wan-koo submitted his resignation to President Park Geun-hye, who is currently traveling in Central and South America, the Hankyoreh confirmed. Lee had been under pressure from both the ruling and the opposition parties to step down after his name appeared on the list left by Sung Wan-jong after his recent suicide. .

US media critical of upcoming visit by Japanese PM Abe

With Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe scheduled to visit the US next week, the New York Times and other US papers are coming forward to criticize his historical perspective and to urge him to show genuine remorse. In an editorial in the Apr. 20 edition titled “Shinzo Abe and Japan’s History,” the New York Times stated that Japan needs to own up to its history - including its barbaric occupation of China and Korea and the way it compelled countless women to serve as comfort women,
