Today’s humor:

Humor from a generous former Asian ambassador

Weekend Joke!!

A guy goes to the supermarket and notices a very attractive woman waving at him.

She says, 'Hello.'

Taken aback because he can't place where he knows her from.

So he asks, 'Do you know me?'

To which she replies, 'I think you're the father of one of my children.'

Now his mind travels back to the only time he has ever been unfaithful to his wife.

So he asks, 'Are you the stripper from the bachelor party that I made love to on the pool table, with all my buddies watching, while your girl friend whipped my butt with wet celery?'

She looks into his eyes and says calmly, ‘No, I’m your son’s teacher.’

Monk

Every ten years, the monks in the monastery are allowed to break their vow of silence to speak two words.

For his first chance to speak, a monk says to the head monk, “Food bad.”

Then ten years go by and he goes to the head monk and says, “Bed hard.”

Again, a decade later, he goes to the head monk and says, “I quit.”

“I’m not surprised,” the head monk says. “You’ve been complaining ever since you got here.”

Government votes for the first time to decommission a nuclear power facility

The South Korean government has begun the first decommissioning of a nuclear power generating facility in history with its recommendation to permanently shut down a power plant that first went into commercial operation 37 years ago. With the closure now set to become a reality, a serious debate is likely to ensue over the fate of the spent nuclear fuel and the permanent disposal of the plant’s waste, along with safety concerns, decommissioning costs, and various hidden social and economic consequences. During a June 12 meeting at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul’s Sogong neighborhood presided by Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Yoon Sang-jick, the National Energy Council (NEC) voted to recommend that operator Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) decommission the No. 1 reactor at Kori Nuclear Power Plant.

Seoul mayor rising in polls after lambasting government over MERS

After Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon lambasted South Korea’s central government for its inadequate response to the outbreak of MERS, short for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, and announced the Seoul Metropolitan Government would be taking aggressive countermeasures, he was found to be the frontrunner in a poll asking voters about their preferences in the next presidential election. .

Pres. Park and Obama speak by phone about rescheduling summit

President Park Geun-hye and US President Barack Obama spoke on the phone on June 12 to discuss follow-up measures to the summit that was delayed because of the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea. Interestingly, the conversation included a pointed reference to South Korea’s announcement the previous day that it was cutting its goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. .

Inter-Korean commemorative events cancelled

The South Korean preparation committee for inter-Korean events to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Korean independence from Japan and the 15th anniversary of the 2000 Joint North-South Declaration officially announced their cancelation on June 12.“With our deepest apologies, we inform the people of South Korea that we have been forced to hold the 15th anniversary events for the June 15 Joint Declaration separately in Seoul and Pyongyang,” the committee said in a spokesperson’s statement that day. .

Korean doctors jousting over use of the word “Oriental”

The Association of Korean Medicine (AKOM) emerged victorious on June 12 from a longstanding feud and legal battle with the Korean Medical Association (KMA) over whether the word “Oriental” should be included in its English name. The AKOM voted in March 2012 to drop the word “Oriental” from its English name, which had previously been “the Association of Korean Oriental Medicine.” Its reason for the decision was the potential for the word to reflect Western cultural prejudices. .

In viral video, students express their thanks to cleaning workers

A short video titled “Warm-Hearted Confession: Sharing Our Appreciation” has been making ripples on social media. In the video, university students express their gratitude to cleaning staff. On June 9, five young people who met during group activities for students interested advertising at Sungkyunkwan University called Warmth: Warm-Hearted People Making a Better World posted a video on their YouTube account that begins with the question, “Who do you want to make your warm-hearted confession to?” .

[Analysis] In backpedaling on greenhouse gas emissions, Seoul risks int’l backlash

The South Korean government is facing heavy criticism after presenting a revised greenhouse gas reduction plan that effectively undoes targets previously pledged to the international community. Seoul said in 2009 that it planned to reduce South Korea’s greenhouse gas emissions by 30% from business-as-usual (BAU) levels for 2020. .

Pres. Park cancels US trip over MERS, then schedules nothing related to the outbreak

Even though President Park Geun-hye delayed a trip to the US because of the emergency caused by the outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), she did not take any action related to the outbreak on June 11, the day after announcing the delay. On June 10, the Blue House announced that Park was pushing back her scheduled trip to the US so that she could concentrate on responding to the MERS outbreak. .

[Reporter’s notebook] With THAAD, S. Korea would be pulled into US-China power play

Recent comments by US authorities about the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) weapons system seem to have one thing in common. When suggestions are made that deploying THAAD on the Korean Peninsula would also affect China, they say that THAAD is intended to defend against North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missiles. .

MERS creating jitters in lead-up to Gwangju Summer Universiade

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) confirmed case of a patient in quarantine at Chonnam National University Hospital is raising alarm over potential safety issues at the Gwangju Summer Universiade event, which is scheduled to open in three weeks.
