“Forget about it, Father,” said the conductor, recognizing him as a regular. “I’m sure you paid for a ticket.”

S. Korea reports 3 more deaths from MERS, 3 new cases

South Korea reported three more deaths from Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) Thursday, bringing the death toll to 23.

The latest deaths put the fatality rate of the disease in the country at nearly 14 percent, the highest since the country first confirmed its outbreak on May 20, according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

Auto, mobile phone sectors to bask in FTA with Central America

Allegations are surfacing that United States Forces Korea (USFK) anthrax testing has been conducted at bases in Gunsan, North Jeolla, and Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province. USFK is currently facing criticisms after an episode last month in which a live anthrax sample was delivered for testing at Osan Air Base in Gyeonggi Province. The anthrax tests are part of USFK’s Joint United States Forces Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition (JUPITR) program. New revelations show that USFK laboratories running the program exist not only at Osan and Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, but also in Gunsan and Pyeongtaek.

WHO says MERS in S. Korea isn’t an emergency of international concern

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the spread of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea does not constitute a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).The WHO issued a statement containing this information on June 17 after the Emergency Committee held its 9th meeting about the spread of MERS by teleconference on June 16. .

S. Korean Foreign Minister to visit Japan later this month
