Ex-President Kim Young-sam dies after achieving Korea’s democratization

Wring the neck of the cork, but the morning comes nonetheless!’

Former President Kim Young-sam died of old age at his home in Seoul on Nov. 22 in the presence of his son, Kim Hyun-chul, and other members of his family. He was 87.Together with the late former President Kim Dae-jung, who died six years ago, Kim Young-sam is considered one of the two greatest fighters for the democratization of Korea and for the eradication of corruption.

President Park Geun-hye visited the Seoul National University Hospital and expressed her condolences at a memorial altar for former President Kim Young-sam on Nov. 23, 2015. Kim died of a blood infection and heart failure early shortly after midnight. Park went to SNUH just hours after she returned from her 10-day trip that included summits of the G-20 and the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation. During her attendance at the East Asia Summit in Kuala Lumpur Sunday, President Park was informed of Kim's death. President Park offered a silent prayer and made consoling remarks to the bereaved family members of the late former President. President park grabbed the hands of Madam Sohn Myung-soon and expressed her condolences and sympathy with the widow. President Park received news on Nov. 22 concerning the passage of former President Kim and expressed her deep condolences over the passage of the former President. Together with the late former President Park Chung-hee who achieved historical industrialization of Korea and miraculous economic development, the two Kims are rated as outstanding champions for the democratization of the Republic of Korea.

With Kim Young-sam’s death, the passing of an era in South Korean politics

Kim Young-sam was born under a lucky star. Better known by the initials “YS,” he was a larger-than-life politician who left a heavy, distinct, and indelible footprint on the history of Korean politics.Kim was an indomitable contender who never gave up the fight for democratization, and he played a leading role in sweeping out a string of presidents who began their careers in the army and ushering in civilian administrations. Even after being elected president, the bold measures he took for change and reform served as the launch pad for advancing South Korea to the next level.

One Sewol father still pushing for an investigation

Last month was the second Chuseok holiday for Park Jong-dae, 51, since losing his son Su-hyeon, a second-year student at Ansan’sDanwon High School, in the 2014 Sewol ferry tragedy. After taking down the memorial table set out for his ancestors and lost child, he sat down before a computer and proceeded to type out a 17-page investigation request based on data he had collected. Two days later, the request was presented to the special Sewol committee investigating the accident. .

Attorneys group seeking to submit brief on Lone Star case.

An attorneys group plans to submit an opinion calling for the dismissal of the private equity firm Lone Star‘s claim for over US$4.3 billion in damages from the South Korean government in an investor-state dispute (ISD), which will have its third trial next January.With its opinion, the group MINBYUN-Lawyers for a Democratic Society is planning to take the opinions of South Korean civil society directly to the arbitrators after previously having two applications to observe the trial were rejected. .

Ambassadors NatalliaZhylevich of Belarus, Kouassi Bile of Cote d’Ivoire, Jorge Roballo of Argentina and Mohamed Abdi Gello of Kenya and 20 other senior diplomats, including the charges d’affaires, visited Handong Global University in Pohang City on the Southeast Coast of Korea on Nov. 12, 2015 at the invitation of President Soon-Heung Chang of the University.

The tour, organized by The Korea Post, included also a visit to POSCO and a cruise ride around the harbor of the Pohang City.

The Korea Post has been organizing tours for the ambassadors and other senior members of the Seoul Diplomatic Corps for the past 30 years, but it must be said that the one hosted by Handong Global University is one of the most impressive in terms of the interest on the part of the host who met the guests with a true heart and warm welcome.

President Soon-Heung Chang of the University made such an excellent arrangement out of respect and special regard for the distinguished international guests by asking his Vice President Simon Kang(Administrative Affairs) and Professor JinwonAhn (School of Management and Economics) to come all the way from Pohang to Seoul to welcome and escort the ambassadors and other senior diplomats to comfortably visit his University.
