IMFcautions that S. Korea’s debt-to-income ratio should be lowered

In a recentreport, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) advised the South Koreangovernment to tighten its regulations on the debt-to-income ratio (DTI) inorder to reduce the risk of household debt.While the IMF has mentionedhousehold debt as being a risk factor for the South Korean economy on severalprevious occasions, this was the first time that it suggested that Seoul adopta specific DTI cap.

Gov’tto announce Lotte golf course as alternative site for THAAD deployment

South Korea’sDefense Ministry has apparently selected a Lotte golf course as the alternativesite for deploying the THAAD antimissile system in Seongju County, NorthGyeongsang Province, and is planning to officially announce the site selectionat the end of this month.“I’ve been told that the work on assessing thepotential THAAD deployment sites is basically done and that they’re exploringthe option of officially announcing the assessment outcome around the weekafter the Chuseok holiday [Sept. 14-16],” an official with South Korea’sDefense Ministry said on Sept. 7.
