S-OIL held the "2020 Citizen Hero of the Year Award Ceremony" at its headquarters in Gongdeok-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on Nov. 30.

S-OIL said, “Our company has selected 19 civic heroes of the year who displayed righteous spirit of sacrifice to save their neighbors in danger and delivered 140 million won (some $126,000) in prize money and plaque.” The delivery ceremony, attended by the winners, was simplified due to a new type of COVID-19.

Among the winners is Shin Dong-joon, a 22-year-old male, who supported the lower part of the life-saving ladder when a fire broke out at a hospital in Goheung County, South Jeolla Province, in July to help people evacuate safely.

Aliakbar, 28, male, who found a fire in a building in Yangyang-eup, Gangwon-do, told people to evacuate and help them with rescue activities.

Kim Gil-young, 52, male, contributed to the rescue of farmers isolated in the fields due to torrential rains in Yanggu, Gangwon Province.

S-OIL CEO Al-Qahtani said, "I was very impressed that there are so many righteous citizens around us. Like these hidden heroes, S-OIL will try to be a protector whom people can trust and rely on."
