Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jung tapped as chairman of the Organizing Committee

Daejeon City will officially launch the organizing committee for the successful hosting of the ‘2022 Daejeon World Federation of Local Governments General Assembly’ (2022 UCLG General Assembly) on July 1, 2021.
Since last year, the Daejeon City has been promoting the establishment of a separate organization dedicated to preparing for the 2022 UCLG General Assembly, and then held the inaugural general meeting last month and completed all related administrative procedures in advance--such as completing the establishment permit and corporate registration.

In the meantime, Daejeon City has established detailed action plans for each field for the successful hosting of the 2022 UCLG General Assembly, and has been preparing in advance for smooth operation with the launch of the organizing committee.
From the second half of this year, after the launching of the organizing committee (2 divisions, 7 teams), there have been established online and off-line public relations consisting of citizen reporters, university student supporters, and citizen public relations groups, as well as overseas diplomatic missions and sister-friendly cities in Daejeon. It will promote the expansion of participation at home and abroad.

The organization plans to simultaneously promote overseas online promotions.
In addition, in order to promote the agreement for the 2022 UCLG General Assembly, we have been continuously conducting working-level discussions with the UCLG World Secretariat through online videoconference. In addition, Daejeon officials plan to visit UCLG member cities and sister/friendly cities to conduct offline publicity activities to invite participants.

The 2022 UCLG General Assembly stages the urban diplomacy between local governments around the world and will be held in Daejeon next year for the 7th time.
The general assembly is expected to be held as a forum to discuss the role of local governments in rapid globalization, such as world city peace-building, sustainable development, and decentralization, and to share urban problems and solutions.


Mayor Huh Tae-jung of the Daejeon City was appointed as the organizing committee chairman in the formation of the Daejeon UCLG Organizing Committee, which was held earlier. Outside personalities such as Choi Seon-mok (president of the Hanwha Group Communications Committee), Dae-Chairman Kang Dae-hoon of the Overseas Korean Business Association, and International Director Jang Dong-hwan of the Daejeon Provincial Bar Association. They participated as executives and contributed to the organizing committee.
The Daejeon City is preparing to form an advisory committee at the same time as its launch for systematic preparation.
The Daejeon UCLG General Assembly Advisory Committee will serve as an advisory body to business planning and execution by field, international network, etc., and is composed of no more than 20 experts in each field.

Mayor Huh Tae-jeong of the Daejeon City said, “There had been many difficulties until the organizing committee was approved, but it was finally achieved through the omni-directional efforts of many people involved. According to the feasibility study of the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, the production inducement effect of the event was KRW 38.4 billion, the largest scale since the '93 Daejeon Expo among international events held in Daejeon.
