Mayor Oh Se-hoon grants President Ivan Duque Marquez of Colombia honorary citizenship

President Ivan Duque Marquez of Colombia, who is on a state visit to Korea, has received an honorary citizenship from the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on Aug. 27, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon awarded President Ivan Duque Marquez of Colombia an honorary citizenship of the city.

President Ivan Duque has been on a state visit to Korea for two nights and three days since Aug. 24. The Colombian President’s visit to Korea is the first time in 10 years since September 2011.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government grants honorary foreign citizenship to foreigners who have lived in Seoul for three consecutive years or five years on an aggregated basis. President Ivan Duque was the 35th major foreign guest to receive an honorary citizenship.

Ivan Duque was elected the youngest President in Colombian history in 2018 at the age of 42. While working at the IDB, he presented his economic vision focused on creative industries as Colombia's next-generation economic development strategy through his book "Orange Economy." He also evaluated Korea as a powerhouse in high-tech and cultural contents.
