The Muracle Orchestra sponsored by The Korea Post is a representative cultural art program of the Gwangjin Cultural Center in Seoul. It is designed so that people of all ages can enjoy cultural and artistic activities in an easy and fun way, and have a high sense of achievement and vitality in life.
There are currently 22 active members, and Editor-In-Chief Jimmy Kim of the Korea Post is serving as vice president of this Orchestra(tenor saxophone player). “Muracle” is a name created with the meaning of 'achieving miracles through music'. In other words, it is a word created by combining the ‘mu’ of music and the ‘racle’ of miracle.
The Muracle Orchestra, composed mostly of beginners, started in May 2016. And after much practice, the founding performance was held on October 5, 2019, and the 2nd and 3rd regular concerts were held successfully on October 31, 2020 and November 20, 2021.
They have been actively participating in various cultural events in the local community, such as 'Unification Hanmadang(big party)', 'Life Culture Festival', 'Silver Culture Festival', 'Seoul Culture Expo.', 'Cultural Street Creation', 'Culture Center Opening Ceremony' and various street performances etc.,
In 2020 and 2021, the Muracle Orchestra participated in 'Finding Shiny Star Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and won a prize. “Although we are unable to actively engage in busking and other activities due to the aftermath of COVID-19, we will take the lead in creating a bright and lively community atmosphere as soon as the corona situation improves.” said Muracle Orchestra Presient Im Jin.
▩ Performance activities
- Local cultural event
The 'Living Culture and Arts Festival' and 'Silver Culture Festival Adult Happy Stage' held at Children's Grand Park received a lot of applause and attention from local residents. True to the festival's slogan, 'Pure Dreams', the pure amateur performers who participated in the senior arts and culture program had a very desirable time for young children to develop pure dreams.
Since May 2019, we have held street performances at least once a week to spread cultural and artistic activities to the local community and create a bright and pleasant living atmosphere in the local community. However, it has been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19.
It is well received by local residents as a space where performers can share music and have fun interacting with passersby regardless of the performer's age, career, or music genre.
- 2019 Seoul Cultural Center Expo. Concert
Forty-seven cultural centers, including the Seoul Cultural Center Association, 25 cultural centers in Seoul, and 16 city and provincial cultural centers across the country, appeared in large-scale events to promote the activities of the cultural center and performed wonderfully.
This event has been held annually since 2015. In particular, in 2019, the event was held to commemorate the 100th National Sports Festival and the 39th National Sports Festival for the Disabled.
▩ Regular Performance
- Foundation concert
The Muracle Orchestra, which started in May 2016, held a successful inaugural concert on Saturday, October 1, 2019 at the Naru Art Center in Gwangjin, after undergoing a full-scale practice course from 2018. Although most of the elderly performers started at the beginner level, they showed off their high-level skills and received a lot of applause.
- The 2nd and 3rd anniversary concerts
Although there were many concerns about COVID-19, the concert to commemorate the 2nd anniversary concert was held at the Naru Art Center on October 21, 2020 after thorough hygiene management amid the active interest and support of the Cultural Center and the overflowing vitality of the members. And the 3rd regular performance was also held with great success at the Naru Art Center on November 20, 2021.
