Regarding the gap in the leadership of the ruling People Power Party (PPP), President Yoon Suk-yeol said, "If it is the conclusion that our party lawmakers and party members have come to a conclusion, I think it is right to respect that conclusion."
"I believe that a sufficiently reasonable conclusion for the future of the party and the country will be able to be reached through fierce debate," President Yoon said at a door-stepping press conference on his way to work at the Yongsan presidential office on Aug. 29.
President Yoon said, “I visited Amsa Market and Seomun Market last week. And I have felt grateful and sorry for seeing people who are working hard in difficult circumstances.”
Yoon said, “The government has decided to maintain the price level a year ago for necessary products for the Chuseok, the Korean version of Thanksgiving Day, which falls on Sept. 10, at least until Chuseok, as high commodity prices are causing difficulties to the people
“We will also make sure that disaster relief funds from floods will be paid to the affected households and small business owners until Chuseok.”
He continued to say, “The government has to keep a tight money policy because the debt has increased a lot over the years, nearly reaching 1,000 trillion won. But we will definitely use national treasury funds for the lives of ordinary people and investment for our future.
“I will work hard as President, even though the people are doing their best in difficult situations.”
As for the cooperation with the Democratic Party of Korea, which elected Lee Jae-myung as the new party leader the day before, President Yoon said, “I think we should work with the National Assembly, including the opposition party. We need to compete, but also we need to be one for national interests and people’s livelihoods.”
He also said, “The presidential office, which is the most important organization, should be the most dedicated and competent group to the people so that they can serve the people properly. Their attitude and work capacity for the nation should always be maintained at the highest level.”
