Gyeonggi Province and Canada agree to strengthen cooperation ahead of the 60th anniversary of Korea-Canada relations

Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province met with Charge d'Affaires a.i Ms. Tamara Mawhinney of Canada in Seoul at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office on Sept. 5.

At the meeting, they agreed to develop strategic partnership between Gyeonggi Province and Canada ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Canada next year.

CDA Tamara Mawhinney said, “Gyeonggi Province has a good relationship with British Columbia (BC), and although I have been there a few times personally, I think it is a beautiful place with good natural resource and rich in human resources.

“I hope that next year, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Canada, the two countries will continue a close and active cooperative relationship in all aspects, including exports, investments, and trade.”

Meanwhile, Governor Kim said, “Today, we held the ‘Eco Fair Korea’ event. Gyeonggi Province will set an example for the most active response to climate change. At the same time, I hope that Korea and Canada will join forces to settle problems on climate change.

Mentioning the 6.25 Battle of Gapyeong, which was attended by four countries of the Commonwealth of Nations, including Canada, Gov. Kim added, "It is a precious experience that not only Canadians but also people in Gyeonggi-do and Korea keep in their hearts. I would like to officially invite them to the celebrations held in Gapyeong every year."
