Kim left his will to donate his body to a medical school
Kim Dong-gil, 94, an honorary professor at Yonsei University, died of a respiratory disease at Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seoul at 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 4.
The deceased left his will to donate his body to a medical school, according to the bereaved families.
Born in Maengsan, Pyeongnam on Oct. 2, 1928, Professor Kim received a doctorate in history from Boston University in the U.S. and served as a professor of history at Yonsei University, the 14th National Assembly member, co-chairman of the New Democratic Party, and editorial advisor to the vernacular daily newspaper Chosun Ilbo.
Kim, whose trademark was a bow tie and mustache, preached the value of liberal democracy through numerous lectures, contributions, broadcasts, and YouTube, and received positive responses from many readers and viewers.
Kim Dong-gil's "100 Years of Person Essays," serialized in the Chosun Ilbo from 2017 to 2018, was his representative work.
The bereaved families include younger sisters Kim Ok-young and Kim Soo-ok. The mortuary will be set up at the Kim Ok-gil Memorial Hall in Daeshin-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul at 2 p.m. on Oct. 5.
