To expand the ‘Bar World of Tomorrow’ training program

Pernod Ricard Korea, the Korean unit of the global wine and spirits company Pernod Ricard, has signed an MOU with Dongseo University in Busan to expand its professional training on sustainability. This training, known as the “Bar World of Tomorrow,” is available to students aged 19 or above who are majoring in hotel management studies.

The company has been operating the “Bar World of Tomorrow” program since January of this year in hopes of establishing a sustainable bar and responsible drinking culture in the domestic liquor industry. The training program, intended for bartenders and bar owners aged 19 or above, introduces sustainable and responsible management activities conducted by Pernod Ricard and relevant cases. Participants are provided with ample opportunities to collaborate on best practices for sustainable bartending that benefits both people and the environment. So far, 177 bar & restaurant professionals joined the program in Korea as well as thousands of people across the globe.

Pernod Ricard Korea expects that the signing of the MOU will enable it to further expand the program which is presently available in Seoul and the surrounding areas, into Busan. This would not only be advantageous to the bar industry, but also to the overall hospitality industry in its ability to practice sustainability. This training will be conducted at Dongseo University Centum Campus in December and will guide students through the concept of sustainability which lies at the hub of establishing an eco-friendly bar culture and its associated expertise. It will also serve to underscore the importance of responsible drinking and share practical tips. Pernod Ricard Korea conducted the training for students from the Hotel Management Department of Dongseo University in Busan in April of this year and received much positive feedback from the students.

HR and Corporate Affairs Director Alex Ryoo of Pernod Ricard Korea commented, “Pernod Ricard Group has been conducting a variety of activities all over the world that attest to its commitment to sustainability and responsibility. We are delighted to be given the opportunity to discuss the themes of an eco-friendly bar culture and responsible drinking practices with students aged 19 or above. We will not provide just a one-off training but continue to further expand the training to work towards the foundation of an eco-friendly system in the relevant industry.

Pernod Ricard Group announced its 2030 Sustainability and Responsibility roadmap in 2019 and has been striving to be sustainable and responsible in every step along its journey - from grain to glass including in its production, delivery, and marketing. In line with this roadmap, Pernod Ricard Korea announced a plan in August to replace all its corporate vehicles with eco-friendly mobility in an effort to reduce carbon emissions. The company also bans the use of single-use plastics, opting instead for recyclable, reusable, and biodegradable materials for all its marketing and promotion items.
