Seondeung Street was lit on Christmas Eve to celebrate the festival
The 2023 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, which had been suspended due to the Covid-19 pendamic, was resumed in three years.
Hwacheon-gun held a lighting ceremony for the 2023 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve, on a special stage in Jungang-ro, Hwacheon-eup in Gangwon-do Province.
On the same day, when Governor Choi Moon-soon of Hwacheon-gun, Chairman Noh Yi-eop of the Local County Council, and heads of local army stationed in the county, chiefs of institutions and organizations simultaneously pressed the light button in time for the countdown, 25,000 wild trout lights and hundreds of thousands of LED lights began to emit colorful lights.
The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival has not been held for three years since 2020 due to COVID-19 pendasmic, but it will showcase the essence of the global winter festival for 23 days from Jan. 7, 2023.
After the lighting ceremony, popular top singers Hong Jin-young and Park Gun, as well as Seo Ji-oh, popular groups Aurora and K4, appeared to give a hot performance in the freezing cold.
Governor Choi Moon-soon of Hwacheon-gun said, "We will do our best to prepare for a festival where everyone is happy, and everyone is safe until the end."
