At a video conference between them

President Yoon Suk-yeol and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Communist Party of Vietnam had a video conference on June 8, 2022 and discussed major issues and development of relations and cooperation between the two countries as well as ways to strengthen Korea-ASEAN cooperation.
According to reports by KTV, Inside VINA and other Korean and Vietnamese  news sources, Yoon and Trong had a video conference with each other on that day and discussed major issues and ways to further develop relations, cooperation and friendship between the two very friend countries of Asia and to further strengthen the Korea-ASEAN cooperation.
Yoon said, "My hearty congratulations on the successful hosting of the 13th Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the second term as General Secretary," adding, "I believe that Vietnam will achieve her goal of becoming a developed country by 2045 thanks to the efforts of General Secretary Trong."

President Yoon also congratulated Vietnam on her recent successes, which have greatly increased Vietnam’s role and status in the international community, saying, "I hope Vietnam will be a reliable partner with Korea so that we can contribute to the greater development of Vietnam."

Celebrating President Yoon's inauguration, General Secretary Trong said, "Korea has contributed to the development of peace, cooperation, and friendly relations in the region and international community from the past, and the two countries have developed comprehensive and practical cooperation in recent years, including human exchanges."
"We thank South Korea for supporting our economic development, including supporting COVID-19 quarantine supplies," General Secretary Trong said. Then he said: "This will not only serve the common interests of the peoples of the two countries but also will contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and international community."
Also, General Secretary Trong officially requested President Yoon's visit to Vietnam.
In response, President Yoon accepted the proposal, saying that he would lead exchanges and developments, including high-level talks, to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Vietnam in 2022. Then he said, “I would like invite General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit Korea at an appropriate time.”
In particular, the two leaders shared their views on building political trust between the parties, the parliaments, the governments and also on expanding cooperation centered on economy, trade and investment. They also agreed on the importance of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, security in the Indo-Pacific region and the South China Sea issue, and Korea-ASEAN cooperation.
In addition, the two leaders decided to strengthen and increase discussions and cooperation on defense, security, culture, tourism, labor, and Vietnamese and Korean residents' issues and support.
