Chairman Choi Jeong-woo of the POSCO Business Group met with a group of visiting Ukrainian lawmakers at the POSCO Center in Seoul on October 6th to discuss ways to cooperate in the reconstruction of Ukraine.
According the POSCO Communications Team on October 8, Ukrainian lawmakers Andriy Nikolaenko and Sergiy Taruta, who visited Korea at the invitation of the Korea-Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Association, met with Choi at POSCO Center as part of a business visit to discuss post-war reconstruction projects. Ukrainian Ambassador to Korea Dmytro Ponomarenko also attended the meeting.

Chairman Choi said, "As the Korean government has a firm commitment to the reconstruction project in Ukraine, and Korean companies, including POSCO Group, are actively participating, the solidarity between the two countries will be further strengthened." Then he added, "We will combine all the capabilities of POSCO Group so that we can start the reconstruction project as soon as the war ends."

In response, Andriy Nikolaenko, Member of Parliament, said, "I believe that POSCO Group is the best partner for rebuilding war-torn Ukraine and building a new Ukraine." He added, "I will actively work to help POSCO Group gain the support of the Ukrainian government and ensure that our mutual cooperation bears fruit."

POSCO Group launched the 'Ukraine Reconstruction Task Force' in March this year, and is promoting participation in reconstruction projects in five business areas such as steel, food, secondary battery materials, energy, and infrastructure, which are centered on the task force, and plans to accelerate humanitarian cooperation through education support for future generations.

In the steel business, POSCO is promoting cooperation in various fields such as energy generation for steel production and eco-friendly steelmaking through the Ukrainian government's Steel Reconstruction Program, while in the food business, we are continuing to expand the sales volume of the grain terminal that POSCO International has been operating in Ukraine's Mykolaiv Oblast since 2019, and are also considering business cooperation with local companies in the fields of secondary battery materials and energy.

In the infrastructure business, POSCO plans to explore with the two governments on how to utilize steel modular houses, which can dramatically shorten the construction period, for reconstruction projects.

Modular is an innovative construction method in which 70 to 80 percent of the process is prefabricated in a factory and then quickly constructed on site, which can shorten the construction period by up to 60 percent, and can be reused and recycled. The Ukrainian lawmakers visited Gwangyang on the 7th, the day after the meeting, and showed interest in modular housing by touring Gwangyang Gigatown (POSCO Employee Living Center), a 12-story high-rise building with modular construction.

Meanwhile, POSCO Group is also making efforts to support the educational environment for future generations in Ukraine, which is suffering from the prolonged war. Through the Global Young Leaders Program, POSCO offers outstanding university students in Ukraine the opportunity to participate in the Postech Exchange Student Program for one year.
