‘It is more important than Presidential candidacy’

Former Co-chairman Ahn Cheol-soo of the splinter opposition People's Party declared in Seoul this afternoon that he will run for its upcoming leadership election. The party is scheduled to elect its new leader on Aug. 27.

He said, “If I had in mind my candidacy for the next Presidential elections, I might have decided to stay away and wait for my next chance, but I decided that the future and importance of continued existence of the party were more pressing than my personal interests.” Then he declared, “For this reason, I have given up everything else.”
Ahn promised, “Before reforming the party, I will try to reform myself first and I will do my best to serve the party and the country.”
