With eight newly confirmed MERS cases last night

A total of eight new MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) cases were confirmed last night and this brings the total number of confirmed MERS patients to 162 as of today. This has caused the number of quarantined people to jump to 6,508 persons and confirmed MERS cases to 162 persons. This was announced by the Ministry of Welfare and Health MERS Control Center announced today (June 17).

The incubation period of the MERS virus has been known to be two to 14 days. However, new cases have been discovered beyond the 14-day latent period. This makes it necessary to increase the duration of the quarantine and the period of temporary close-down of the affected hospitals.
All eight new patients are believed to have contracted the viruses inside the hospital.
